With Pickles table wear, twist your tables!

The traditional technique of porcelain painting was recognized for centuries as a prestigious gesture. At the end of the 18th century, it was practically abandoned in favor of "chromo", a form of decalcomania for porcelain supports.

With Pickles table wear, I wanted to reuse this know-how neglected over time, revisit it through large flat areas of color for contemporary use.

The support: obsolete porcelain straight out of our grandmothers' cupboards, which I upgrade.

The result: tableware that makes sense! An upcycled raw material, a hand-painted decoration, for ultra arty unique pieces.

Once the piece has been found, many work steps will follow one another:the first thing is to clean it.

Then comes the drawing of the pattern and the masking which delimits the forms to paint without exceeding.

Then begins the preparation of the colors, where the colored powders are ground with the medium.

Finally, the coloring and its polishing, a gesture that is done with a sponge to obtain beautiful flat areas.

The part must then observe a drying time before the unmasking and cleaning of excess paint.

Penultimate step: the installation of a gilded touch with fine gold and the logo on the back of the plate.

I finish by putting it in the oven, then cooking itfor about twelve hours.

For some pieces I superimpose several layers, repeating the process described.

It is a long and meticulous work.

My knowledge
About

I am  from a classical decorative painter training, graduated from the Van der Kelen school in Brussels where I learned the art of faux-bois and faux-marble, I am attached to the traditional know-how that I like to interpret and to the culture of the gesture. I have long put my skills into practice on decoration sites. That is fifteen years shared between a clientele of individuals and institutions such as the decor workshops of the Opéra de Marseille or the Festival d'art lyrique d'Aix-en-Provence or antique dealers in Saint-Ouen.
